Grow and cook!

This program was introduced at Rostrata in 2010 when an organic garden was established and is now thriving. Produce grown in the garden is used during cooking lessons conducted in our well-equipped kitchen.

Students in years 4 to 6 = attend their class lessons in the garden or kitchen on alternate weeks under the guidance of the kitchen or garden specialist staff and parent volunteers.

Through our Kitchen garden program, students develop an understanding of where food comes from, the importance of nutrition; the benefits of eating fresh, local produce; the seasonal changes and cycles of gardening and actions we can take to live more sustainably. In addition, they develop valuable, real-world skills in cooking and gardening and gain from working collaboratively through authentic experiences.
